Small Employer Health Care Credit and Non Profits

In our firm we have found that many not for profits are unaware that they are eligible for the small employer health care credit. The small employer health insurance credit is available to help offset health insurance costs that are paid for employees by a “small” employer. This credit is available to both for profit and not for profit small employers that provide health insurance to employees. Many not for profits, in particular churches, are unaware that they qualify for a credit. Churches are often not even required to file an income tax return which is a reason why many do not know that the credit exists. The credit is a refundable credit and the organization or business is able to offset tax and even request a refund if they qualify for the credit.

The credit qualifications can be found at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Small-Business-Health-Care-Tax-Credit-for-Small-Employers
